Venus Williams has withdrawn from the Australian Open after ducking out of her match on Friday due to an injury.
It appears that she over-stretched a muscle in her side when she went to return a serve in her game against Andre Petkovic.
“Obviously I just couldn’t play,” said Venus. “I couldn’t move. It was too painful.”
She continued:
“The last 48 hours, I just did as much pain management as I could. A lot of times when you play, you get that adrenalin and that blocks pain. I just didn’t get enough of that today. I was hoping for some magic that I could recover.”
Her right thigh was already heavily bandaged going into the match, so she was at risk from the beginning.
We hope she recovers quickly! Tennis isn’t the same without Venus!!
