The state’s tourism website boasts, “Virginia is for lovers,” and apparently they don’t discriminate.
Adam Ebbin is on his way to become Senator of the Commonwealth, and he’s gay!
Now, having a gay senator is nothing new. There have been plenty of them; they’re just all in the closet.
Ebbin, on the other hand, is out and about with it, but the Old Dominion knows better than to judge a politician on his sexuality. Just like his hair color, it has nothing to do with how he can run things.
On Tuesday, he won the Democratic primary and since the district leans heavily toward the left side of the fence, it is expected he will win.
Ebbin is up against Republican Tim McGhee for the position with the general election coming up in November.
Chuck Wolfe, President and CEO of Victory Fund, said in a statement:
Given his heavily Democratic district, Adam Ebbin’s primary victory all but assures that he will become the first out Virginia state senator. This is an incredible milestone for the LGBT community and is further proof that voters today see LGBT people as just as committed to their communities as any other public servant.
This is fantastic news. So good to see a man’s sexuality not getting in the way of being seen as the best man for the job. Hopefully we’ll be able to update you on a happy election turnout in November.
Each step counts! Stay tuned!
