Guess it’s babies over booty!
We’ve gotta admit we’re a little shocked to hear the VMAs this year couldn’t top the 2011 VMAs, which holds the record as the all-time highest in ratings.
Miley Cyrus certainly did her part to pull in the numbers, but this year’s VMAs only scored 10.1 million viewers with 4.6 million of those people being in the 12-34 age group. However, this show was actually the #1 entertainment telecast of the year among the 12-34 age group!
And that might sound like a pretty sweet number, but when Beyoncé revealed her pregnancy at the VMAs in 2011, that show pulled in 12.4 million viewers!
This year’s twerk-fest was also behind the 2002 show that involved the solo debut of Justin Timberlake as it nabbed 11.95 million viewers.
Who would’ve thought he’d get more viewers on his own than he would reuniting with *NSYNC?!
But not to rain on the raunchy timez, the show saw a huge jump in ratings as compared to last year because only 6.1 million people tuned in for the 2012 airing.
And anywho, Miley’s grinding party on Robin Thicke DID set a new Twitter record with 306k tweets being sent per minute! That not only DESTROYS Bey’s pregnancy reveal Twitter score of 8,868 tweets per minute, but it also puts to shame the previous record of 268k tweets per minute held by Bey, again, for her Super Bowl performance.
So, Queen Bey, looks like the next move is yours.
And we’re thinking that move might need to involve twerking!
