Here’s What Justin Baldoni Says Ryan Reynolds Yelled At Him For ‘Fat-Shaming’ Blake Lively

Here’s What Justin Baldoni Says Ryan Reynolds Yelled At Him For ‘Fat-Shaming’ Blake Lively

Well, we finally know how Ryan Reynolds allegedly dealt with Justin Baldoni over the whole Blake Lively fat-shaming claim…

Shortly after It Ends with Us hit theaters, claims starting coming out about all the ways Justin allegedly made Blake “uncomfortable” on set — one of which regarded what he said about her postpartum body. Blake gave birth to her and Ryan’s son Olin in early 2023, just months before It Ends with Us began shooting. Blake alleged he made comments about her weight.

In Justin’s first suit against the New York Times, he gave his version of events — which is pretty close to hers tbh. The script initially required Justin, who struggles with back problems, to lift Blake for a scene. So instead of talking to her about it, he asked his trainer (who was also her trainer) about how much Blake weighed.

The trainer told Blake, who told her husband Ryan Reynolds — who was NOT happy about it! He felt the whole thing was essentially fat-shaming his wife during a very sensitive postpartum period. According to Justin, the Deadpool star got “aggressive” with him over the matter while confronting him directly. And now we know exactly how.

In his $400 million lawsuit filed against the husband and wife on Thursday, he relitigates, so to speak, the events from his perspective:

“Still during the pre-production phase, Lively and Reynolds raised entirely false allegations of fat-shaming against Baldoni: an accusation that, as evidence will show, was categorically false. Baldoni had been introduced to trainer ‘Don’ — who became Baldoni’s personal trainer — by Lively. Don directed Baldoni’s preparation for the Film role, including his nutrition and exercise, making special accommodations for Baldoni’s back injury; Baldoni even paid to receive Don’s meal delivery service. Privately, Baldoni reached out to Don, as his personal trainer, to ask what Lively weighed so that he could train his back muscles in preparation for a lift scene. This was important to avoid injury not only to Baldoni, who suffered from lifelong back injuries, multiple bulging disks, and chronic pain but also to Lively if the lift could not be completed successfully and safely.”

The lawsuit continues:

“Notwithstanding Lively’s recent attempts to deny the existence of any such scene, it was only nixed at her insistence after having been planned and rehearsed. The next morning, Baldoni was summoned to the penthouse by Lively and greeted by Reynolds, who swore at Baldoni and accused him of fat-shaming his wife.”

So by aggressive, he means he “swore” at time? Only this time, he actually QUOTES Ryan, revealing exactly what words he used. According to the suit, Ryan yelled at him:

“‘How dare you f**king ask about my wife’s weight? What’s wrong with you?’”

Justin also says it was Ryan who made him change the scene to accommodate Blake’s discomfort with her weight being an issue:

“The confrontation from Reynolds and Lively was so aggressive that Baldoni felt he had no choice but to offer repeated (and completely unwarranted) apologies for what was a good faith and reasonable question to ask of his trainer. Reynolds demanded Baldoni remove the scene entirely. Lively refused to perform the lift scene in the end, even after it was rehearsed with a stunt double.”

As we said before… we can’t really fault Ryan for standing up for his wife. Justin certainly makes it sound like he went overboard — especially since the director clearly doesn’t think he did anything wrong by going behind her back and asking.

It would already be an etiquette gray area, as he even admits Blake “expressed insecurity about her postpartum figure.” Asking her weight behind her back, even in his version of events, can be seen as crossing a line. But that’s NOT what she says happened! Justin points out next how in Blake’s harassment complaint, she tries to make him look worse — by claiming there was no lift scene!

“In her own Complaint, Lively flat out lies about the absence of this scene by claiming ‘the scene wasn’t in the film.’ The only reason the scene wasn’t in the film is because Lively and Reynolds ensured it was taken out of the Film. Accommodating Lively, Baldoni re-wrote the scene with Lively, despite the fact that for creative reasons, this scene was important to him as a storyteller and director.”

Yeesh!
