Travis Kelce & Patrick Mahomes SUED -- Details!

NFL besties Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes are headed toward a legal battle.

The Kansas City Chiefs star players, as you know, opened up a restaurant in their hometown called 1587 Prime, a steakhouse that honors their football jersey numbers: 15 and 87. Ever since its opening, fans have been eager to try the food — and Swifties even found out there were some Taylor Swift inspired menu items. After the restaurant’s opening party, things seemed to be going great! But now, a sneaker company is alleging trademark infringement.

According to a new report from ESPN on Friday, a shoe company called 1587 Sneakers is claiming the two athletes and their business partner Noble 33 are in the wrong for using the 1587 name. Per the report, the sneaker company started selling their shoes in April 2023, while Pat and Trav didn’t open their steakhouse until September 2025.

Things get complicated, though, when you realize the football stars filed for trademark via the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in December 2023. Meanwhile, it’s reported that the shoe company didn’t file for their trademark until October 2025 — a whole month after the steakhouse opened. The trademark is also reportedly still under review.

Of course, it’s also worth noting that the companies are filed under two different sections. The steakhouse, 1587 Prime, is filed under the bar and restaurant category. The 1587 Sneakers shoe company is filed under clothing.

As for what a real trademark attorney thinks, Josh Gerben told ESPN:

“I think it’s a tough case for the sneaker company. Trademarks can coexist in different industries. … Given that the marks are essentially identical here, is a restaurant and a shoe company too close? Are consumers likely to be confused in thinking they are affiliated with one another?”

But this is where 1587 Sneakers co-founder Adam King chimed in with his own opinion. He alleged that since 1587 Prime sells clothing as merch, there’s some confusion there. He claimed “scores of customers” have reached out to the shoe company, believing they were affiliated with the restaurant. He told the outlet:

“From the onset, we have communicated a sincere belief that there is room for mutual respect and understanding. That belief has not changed, and we continue to hope to resolve this matter amicably.”
