There’s a special place in hell for people who do cruel things to animals!!
But for now, there’s a special place in jail waiting for Deborah Sue Culwell, a woman who was just arrested by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department for allegedly disposing a bag full of puppies (!!!) in a dumpster, behind a Napa Auto Parts store in Coachella, California.

The Riverside County Animal Services‘ Senior Public Information Specialist John Welsh confirmed to People, that the 55-year-old was taken into custody on Monday afternoon. Police were able to identify Culwell with surveillance video footage of the area, where she is seen pulling up to a dumpster in a white Jeep Wrangler.
According to reports, Deborah allegedly tossed a plastic bag of seven, three-day old puppies into the trash and never looked back.

It is especially hot in the desert around this time of year, with temperatures reaching the mid 90s. TMZ reports that the pups were barely breathing when they were later discovered by a Good Samaritan.
Allegedly, these pups weren’t the only ones being abused by Culwell.
While searching the woman’s house, authorities discovered approximately 30 other dogs inside, living under less than ideal circumstances.
Wow. How awful!! We still can’t wrap our heads around what kind of person could be so cruel, to such sweet creatures…
So what happened to the puppies?!
Thanks to a positive update from the RCAS’s Facebook page, we are happy to share that the animals at the house were all taken into custody, and are currently being cared for by a shelter in Thousand Palms.
The seven pups recovered from the trash are also “doing well” too, and are living with a foster owner in the Inland Empire area who is able to properly care for, and bottle-feed the newborns.

It’s still unclear why this heinous act was committed in the first place, but we hope the price will justly be paid.
RCAS Specialist Welsh says their department is confident that Deborah will receive multiple charges for animal cruelty, that could result in two to six years of prison time and a possible $20,000 fine. Speaking to People, he explained:
“We do feel strongly that this rises to a felony of animal cruelty and when we submit our case to the District Attorney’s office, we do believe we’ll be successful in pursuing seven counts of animal cruelty.”
