This is the kind of story that sounds like it could only come out of Florida.
A woman, Dawn Brooks, previously busted by the cops, is now suing Volusia County and the city of New Smyrna Beach for a pretty ridiculous reason:
Why? Because the cops forced her to poop on her front lawn, and then they told her to undress in front of them.
UHHH, WHAT??
The story goes that she apparently had to use the bathroom, but she was handcuffed and the cops wouldn’t let her go back inside.
According to a district court judge’s summary of the incident the cops “told her to ‘just use the restroom right there’ in the front yard, which plaintiff did.”
Because she was cuffed she couldn’t “clean herself up” (gross) so the cops made her strip naked and put on a plastic jumpsuit, laughing and yelling the whole time.
The crazy part is that the judge dismissed her claim because she didn’t specifically explain how her rights were violated, she only mentioned her Fourth Amendment rights were violated but didn’t explain how.
She has the option of submitting an amended complaint.
If this is all true, that’s awful and those cops should be punished. If it’s not and she was just on the meth she was being busted for, we would hope she wouldn’t waste the court’s time.
In the end, though, it doesn’t matter if she was a criminal or being actively busted for meth — being treated like this is inhumane and downright disturbing!
