Women’s downhill skiing got not one but TWO champions today!
Slovenian Tina Maze and Switzerland’s Dominique Gisin finished their runs with the EXACT same time: 1 minute 41.57 seconds!
And that is an Olympic first!
Never before have two alpine skiers finished with the same time and tied for a gold medal!
These ladies raced down the mountain at speeds of nearly 65 mph and experts say the difference between them finishing in a tie or finishing .01 seconds behind is a matter of inches!
But the tie wasn’t the only first from the event!
With Tina Maze’s win, she gives Slovenia their first EVER gold medal in a winter Olympics!
YAY!
She expressed just how happy she was to win gold for her country, saying:
“I have been dreaming about this since I was little. It’s a great feeling because Dominique and I are pretty good friends. We have the same mentality. It’s good to see her winning gold, too. I am very happy for her.├óΓé¼┬¥
Aww!
The bronze went to Lara Gut of Switzerland. American Julia Mancuso finished way back at 8th.
