    21

it´s quite sad for the nominees though.
but it´s a good thing that the actors stood behind the writers and that the writers kept strong.
this will have an impact on the industry as it´s the golden globes we are talking about and not some weird z-listers event.
hope that they settle a deal before the oscars, i am so looking forward to this especially as jon stewart will be hosting.

  24. sandman says – reply to this

    24

I couldn’t care less, and TV is nothing more than a dinosaur with all the crap (so-called) writing and fake talent shows (A.I. topping the list). The sooner the networks go down for the count the better. And cable should be free, but for the only difference between it and the networks (even though there are more channels to choose from), is that we pay for the commercial-breaks with cable, as apposed to networks being free. Now that I think about it, when was the last time you bought (paid $20.00) for a ‘DVD, brought it home, loaded it and pressed ‘start, and didn’t have to fast-forward through 10-minutes of promos/commercials? WHAT?!? I just paid for this movie, and it’s pre-loaded with a bunch of commercials? We pay far more than a copy of a ‘DVD/movie is worth, and yet the studios still can’t help but to squeeze every cent out of the advertising bug they can muster.

  25. award shows suck! says – reply to this

    25

GOOD! I can't stand watching a bunch of pompus ass people getting awards for doing nothing!
I like it when they get made fun of though…that's why I love PEREZ!!!

  26. sandman says – reply to this

    26

Here’s a little info for the networks/studios that they don’t want to hear; in that advertising on TV doesn’t sell anything! When was the last time you ran out and bought anything you ever saw pushed in the commercials? I never have and I never will. NO SOLICITATING posted proudly at my front-door. If I want something; I’ll got out and buy it, and I don’t need pushers/marketers trying to win me over. Let the networks fail or move to cable, and let cable be free to everyone. If advertising sells then it won’t make or break or change anything right? Sound farfetched? Radio is free, as are email accounts. It doesn’t cost a penny to email anyone you know, other than the small fee we pay for internet (the libraries are free), and you can call anyone over the ‘PC you choose (if you’ve figured out how), converse freely and there are no ‘local/long-distance charges connected. Having vented, have a wonderful day~

    35

No awards show? Not surprising. The actors weren't going to show up, anyway. Then again, it would have been funny to see NBC try to do a broadcast in an empty theater. I think the last time stars boycotted an awards show was the 1980 Emmys during the SAG strike of that year. I heard only one actor showed up to claim his award. Does anyone know if that awards show was broadcast?

IF THE GOLDEN GLOBES WERE CANCELED, SO SHOULD THE PARTIES

HOW IRRITATING……………..WHOEVER SHOWS UP TO THESE PARTIES IS F***UP AND A DOUBLEFACED DOUCHE

  42. LD says – reply to this

    42

this sucks so bad… not fair at all… selfish assholes in hollywood can't get over themselves and come to an agreement and shit like this happens… awards season only happens once a year! basically going 2 years without the award shows now….

  43. jessica says – reply to this

    43

It does suck balls! I love the Golden Globes. It's too bad it won't go on. I understand the reasoning though. Most of the A listers weren't going to show up and I can't say that I blame them. They are supporting the writers. To think…all this could be solved if the big greedy companies would just fork over a measely FOUR CENTS!!

  44. Fed Up Consumer says – reply to this

    44

These 6-figure earning writers are so greedy. Its a known fact that most TV writers make around $200,000 (google it) and yet they refuse to work til they get more. GIVE THEM NOTHING and REPLACE THEM WITH ACTUAL TALENT

    47

They should do it this way every year.

  48. Can't stand Rumor says – reply to this

  49. deenums says – reply to this

    49

Big ones. Just resolve the strike already. NBC is pissing me off the most, axing good shows unresolved, and now the strike. I cancelled my cable, I'll resume when scripted shows come back. I live in Montreal Canada, but I watch ads and see product placement nonetheless.

  50. Joanna says – reply to this

    50

This is so stupid. Many of the writers have gotten new deals and have abandoned the picket line - yet everyone else is supposed to still boycott everything? At first I was on the writers' side, but now they are showing themselves to be just as self-serving and hypocritical as the producers are.

  51. disappointed says – reply to this

  53. janebird says – reply to this

    53

I actually don't care because this year was one of th worse years for film I've ever seen. Just a bunch of boring rpetnetious crap. And apart from maybe Jodie Foster and Daniel Day Lewis I really dont' care about the nominees. Last year was much better for awards.

  54. queen of disrepair says – reply to this

    54

Yay — Rumer Willis won't be on tv!!!

  55. informed nica says – reply to this

    55

Megan is right. Who cares? The people who vote for these awards are like 12(or maybe 70) newspaper and magazine writers from other countries who report on the entertainment industry for their media overseas. They vote for anything and anybody that mainly Europeans like and are greatly influenced by "favors" from the film and TV industry. These awards are worth nothing!!!!

  56. brainchild says – reply to this

    56

Unions started out as a neccessary and good idea. But they have grown evil with their success. I would like to see someone in Hollywood with the balls to say "no more!! We will not be told what to do by these overly powerful unions." But I know that won't happen. Everyone thinks unions represent the little guy who can't help himself–but they've grown into a huge conglomerate that makes outrageous demands, while still pretending to protect the weak people. PPZ–can't you see that and be brave and be the 1st to speak up???

  57. MP says – reply to this

    57

What I would like to see is the awards show completely cancelled, and make it a lose-lose situation. The actors don't recieve any award and the show isn't televised. Bet that would start a war with SAG and WGA. One of the most prestigious awards not awarded. Think of all the stars who may have gotten this award, not getting it. Talk about ego's being shot down. All that hard work, being nominated and then no awards given because the writers would not accept the same deal for this one show that they approved of for the David Letterman show. It does say one thing, that the actors are getting shafted by the writers (by not accepting that deal they gave Letterman). If I was an actor, especially if I was to receive that award, I would be pissed.

It's amazing how unions stand together, even though one is shafting the other.

  58. go fuck your pen says – reply to this

    58

    65

at first i was elated that the show was cancelled…but the nominees are still getting airtime on dateline! and they're still having those self-congratulatory parties! the entertainment unions must be the ONLY unions in this country that celebrate while they're out of work!!! proving once again that the highest paid industry in the world deserves NONE OF OUR SYMPATHY.

  66. ck says – reply to this

    66

    Re: sandman

Never mind the fact that this is 2008, not 1908. Door-to-door salesmen aren't the rampant epidemic they used to be back before they were able to spam you on television and through the internet.

But if you "proudly" display a sign with "NO SOLICITATING" on your door, the best thing that can happen for you for a door-to-door dictionary salesman to magically materialize from a bygone era to hand you a dictionary.

  67. Matt says – reply to this

    67

I will no longer support the WGA. They are making a mess of everything! The Globes just need to keep the awards this year.. and the oscars too. Let those movie lose all the money they would have made by the awards push… let everybody blame who is at fault the stinking Writers.

I watching only reality TV… no more scripted WGA crap after the writers have pulled all their tricks.

  68. MissP says – reply to this

Shame on the WGA and the mess they have caused.

During the annoucement of the winners the foreign press should announce that no one won this year and the awards have been cancelled. They boycott the awards, but will still show up for the parties, how screw up is that!!!!

you suck balls. who cares about the shameless self promotion of stupid people? I love that the writers - the ones who make all the stupid celebrities sound like they have half a brain - are holding the reigns. If I never have to see another John Travolta, Tom Hanks, Scorcese, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt - style wank fest it will be too soon.

  76. ALI says – reply to this

    76

Doesn't anyone feel bad for the truley great actors who won't get their chance to shine at their moment of victory? LIKE JAMES MCAVOY in Atonement? He's got Oscar's balls in his hands! I want to hear his speeecchh!!!

  77. Amanda says – reply to this

    77

These network executives and producers only understand what will affect their pocketbooks. They need to give the writers the residuals they deserve from new media.

To support them and end the strike faster, I suggest not watching any reality show programming; watch a movie instead. If you're going to watch late night TV, stick with Letterman, who has struck a deal with the WGA.

  78. sandy says – reply to this

    78

I no longer support the writers. This is crap.

  79. JOE says – reply to this

    79

This is very fucked up!, I look forward to see this show every year, and because of writers being greedy & selfish, millions of people won't get to see this show.

I guess hundreds of thousands of dollars aren't good enough for writers. Assholes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

  80. KMA says – reply to this

    80

Hollywood award shows are places where drunk actors and actresses gather to kiss one another's asses so they can get their next role. This one is stupid anyway- a handful of foreign journalists pick who they like. Beyond stupid. What if everyone got an award for doing their job correctly? The vanity of those dimwits is hilarious. They don't write the words, so they can't talk! hahahahah.

  81. Jane says – reply to this

I could not agree with you more. These writers are so pathetic and selfish, put enough people out of work lately? Oh waaaah, life is so hard!
Please, try living on a teacher's salary, you greedy idiots. Just go lock yourself away in your Hollywood Hills mansions and cry yourself to sleep.
I hope when the strike ends, you are fired, every last one of you!!!!

Stupid writers. If you can afford to stand around picketing for that long not working, you have no business asking for more money. If I went on strike from my job, I'd lose my house, my car would get repo'ed. Nope. No sympathy. Fortunately, no one watches the Golden Globes anyhow. Must be cheaper to run a short and sweet ceremony anyway.

Everyone who whinges about the writers strike as if they're all millionares squabbling over a few extra dollars is a total RETARD, who clearly doesn't know anything about the actual facts. *eyeroll* You guys are the selfish dumb c*nts, not the writers or actors. Yes, never mind people's right to fair pay and conditions - your regular TV viewing is more important!

i think this is a bit crazy! The actors should think of their fans!!!!

  94. Gingerous says – reply to this

    94

    Re: Kitty
the entertainment industry is not like any other industry. most of these people can go months without actually working and still make more money than most americans (i know several!). the people who are striking are not hurting themselves–they're hurting everyone else in the industry and betraying tv fans. do the writers deserve a bigger share of the pie? sure, but the producers are not going to take a smaller cut. we, the consumers, will face higher costs on movie tickets, dvds, and consumer goods from raised advertising rates.

I already don't go to the movies- paying that much for a ticket is stupid. I'll much rather watch a movie on the intenet for free. If the costs of movie tickets get any higher I doubt that many will go and the industry will suffer so much and I'm hoping that the greedy producers will be forced with a pay cut!
