Jodie Foster is still not ready to come out as a lesbian, despite being in a relationship with her lover, Cydney Bernard, for almost twenty years.
It's cool. It's her choice to come out or not. It's also a journalist's responsibility to ask her about it, and we applaud the folks at Entertainment Weekly for going there.
The Brave One star is on the cover of the new EW, and this was the most interesting part of the article.
"There's only one subject that [Foster] firmly swats away. A recent Out magazine cover featured two models holding up pictures of her and Anderson Cooper's faces in front of their own, under the headline 'The Glass Closet: Why Stars Won't Come Out And Play.' When asked if she has any response, Foster says, 'Was that the one with the Popsicle sticks?' Her thin lips tighten into a calm half smile of reproach: 'No, I have no response.'"
Bummer.
Jodie's not going to go to her grave closeted (hopefully).
If Loraine Barr had the courage to come out as a lesbian at 88 years old, then Jodie can do it too. It's only a matter of time!

That's the difference between a good journalist and a bad one. Just curious, where did Perez get his journalism degree? What college or university? IMDB.com says he has a degree in Drama. How can he be a journalist without a degree? Someone in the comments said that "everyone knows she is gay, so why doesn't she just come out?" I can understand why someone would rather be defined by their life's work than societal labels and maybe she has no desire or time to become a champion of gay and lesbian rights. So if journalists feel it their responsibility and business to ask heterosexuals actors and actresses, "are you single? are you dating anybody? whom?" then it's just as fair to ask it of Jodie Foster, and to expect honest responses. Instead, Jodie Foster lies to cover up the gender and identity of her long-term lover. This is not about it being none of our business; this is about her long-term efforts to cover up facts that can be readily observed - such as that is her girlfriend, not her mother (Cindy B. in the picture above); in interviews to the media, she pretends she has been raising her two children as a single mother (lie). Why should we take her seriously as a professional actress when she lies to the public about the most fundamental matters in her life, such as whom she shares her home and life with?
Why does everyone insist that anyone who is homosexual has to declare it out loud? Heterosexuals don't go around declaring that they are hetero, only if they are accused of being homosexual and that freaks them out.
Let everyone live their life with whoever they want. Not everyone wants to discuss their private life, we should respect that Jodie and other people like her don't splash all their business all over the place ala Lindsay and Britney.

I feel bad for her actually - something about this tells me that maybe she does want to say something but honestly feels she can't. The tightening of her lips can either be a bitchy "It's none of your business" attitude, or, being strained from inner conflict of wanting to talk about it but not being "allowed" to. She's still an A list icon playing straight women, and maybe she was "advised" to keep her mouth shut if she'd like it to stay that way. A vast majority of people still are not accepting of it all and can't separate an actor's personal life from their screen personas, which means they would stop seeing her movies and it would affect the $$$ her movies make.
