Mayor Mike Moncrief of Fort Worth, Texas – where police decided to “celebrate” the anniversary of Stonewall with a gay bar raid – apologized for “what happened in Fort Worth” when confronted at a City Council meeting on Tuesday.
“If you want an apology from the mayor of Fort Worth: I am sorry about what happened in Fort Worth,” he said.
The investigation into the raid has not yet been completed and the mayor has asked the U.S. Attorney’s Office to review the department’s findings. Police Chief Jeff Halstead has appointed Officer Sara Straten to act as a liaison between the LGBT community and the police department.
