Bar Commission Apologizes For Texas Raid!
It's about time!!!
The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission has apologized for the reckless raid of the gay bar, Rainbow Lounge, last month as the agents involved committed "clear violations" of the organization's policies.
To say the least!
The raid resulted in serious injuries, including one patron being hospitalized with head trauma.
According to the Dallas Voice, TABC administrator Alan Steen has put the agents on desk duty pending investigation and their supervisor has retired in the wake of the controversy.
“I don’t think you have to dig very deep to figure out that TABC has violated some of their policies,” Steen said. “We know that, and I apologize for that. Like I said in my original press release, we have in the past and we will in the future act very swiftly in making sure that those issues are corrected. It’s real clear that however it is that we were doing business that night is not the typical TABC. … I have good policy in place, I have good training in place, and I have good supervision in place to ensure that things like this don’t happen.”
Well, the agents asked permission from their supervisor, who granted the raid necessary.
.
“You can read that policy and you can figure out really quickly, TABC shouldn’t have even been there,” Steen said referring to the excessive show of force. “If our guys would have followed the damn policy, we wouldn’t even have been there. … We have these conversations all the time, and we don’t participate in those kinds of inspections when there’s not probable cause or reasonable suspicion or some public safety matter to be inspected.”
Also, the agents should not have been wearing “special events uniforms,” as they typically wear plain clothes while conducting bar inspections.
We can all agree that was no bar inspection!!!!
The results of TABC's investigation of wrongdoing will be announced in the next few weeks at a Fort Worth press conference.
Steen claims that he’s “very, very interested in and committed to” the idea of appointing a liaison between his agency and the LGBT community.
“I just think the people of Fort Worth deserve to know that we’re very interested in this and very diligently working to get to the bottom of it,” he continued.
This was a hateful act and people need to be held accountable!

Equality for all!
Marsgirl , Texas is not the South.
Re: SWEETPIECE! – Hi Sweets! #6 how are you? Glad they did the right thing and apologize. A little late. I hope that person with the head injury is alright.
xoxo
It's really very strange that commission apologized before any official post-mortem released to the public.
Somebody must've paid somebody to produce a scapegoat.
Texas, the place where nobody, gay or straight, can legally buy a dildo … suddenly is bending over backwards to accomodate voices from the fringe? WOW!
I live in Dallas/Ft Worth.I emailed Perez a story of another raid in Dallas last weekend. No one was hurt, but it it certainly heightens the speculation as to wtf is going on. And for the record the TABC is apologizing. But the Fort Worth police chief has still failed to do so, and the officers involved remain on duty. I have not heard on the condition of the initial raid at the rainbow room.
Re: cherished –
you're brave…if u live
in Texaz….whooohooooo
Re: ShoeWhore – Lol. Umm I have bought dildos and I live in Texas. It's not illegal.
remember everybody ……. ONE CAN'T BUY A DILDO IN TEXAS, WITHOUT THE PROSPECT OF GETTING ARRESTED AND SENTENCED TO DECADES IN PRISON.
I'M NOT KIDDING !!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE US SENATE PASSED THE HATE CRIMES BILL/ MATTHEW SHEPARD ACT. WHY NO MENTION OF THIS? IT' S GOING ON OBAMA'S DESK SOON!
Re: ShoeWhore – actually, you can, since 2005 I believe. You just can't call it a dildo when selling it in a store.
Re: Anonymous321 –
I can't begin to illustrate how many MILLION$ of Texans' taxpayers $ have been spent prosecuting and housing (in prison
Re: ShoeWhore – I never said there wasn't. I just said that there's no longer a ban. You claimed you can't buy a dildo in Texas without the prospect of getting arrested, and that's not true anymore. As I said before, stores cannot call them "dildos." And also, before the ban was lifted, you could buy one for "educational purposes."
Ughhhhh!
GET OVER IT!
THE US SENATE JUST PASSED THE HATE CRIMES BILL/ MATTHEW SHEPARD ACT

Gay bars are gay…
PUNCH PEREZ!!!!
Re: SWEETPIECE! –
Exactly!
This picture looks wrong and funny….but to the situation…WHATEVER!
Well…this is what happens when you give stupid, uneducated, narrow minded, southern losers authority and an uniform! What do you expect? First reflex; lets go gay-bashing…
Some credit to this guy for admitting there was wrongdoing. A lot of people in this world can't even do that. Hopefully they take the next steps. Sounds like this particular person holds nothing against gays and is embarassed and pissed at the department and will do the right thing. I think taking their time before they speak is ok. Getting the facts. Issuing a smart statement. Let's hope this kind of thing NEVER happens again. Why's it so hard?
Re: floridazz – um,yeah it is.
HEY How long do you wanna ram this story in the ass for,Perez? geez. Its like the most boring, irrelevent and half-ass reported story you've done. And to all the people hating on the Texas and the South, you're just as ignorant for generalizing.
Re: ShoeWhore – Yeah, that's not true anymore. Just like buying a bong, can't call it a bong. A rose by any other name…
Re: jimmyjazz – I would consider this a hate crime, doubt anyone will get prosecuted.
…bigoted hillbillies.
Re: rubysoho – I second that!
Nothing's shocking here in Texas. It's sad that it's for this crap that every one thinks we're nothing but douches….only you have no idea how bad it really can be…so much hate here still.
817 holla
yeah that was SO a hate crime/ big meanies : (
totally unacceptable!..these freaks are totally guilty….this country is in the dark ages with this crap…
Texas is apart of the south!
and Fort worth is very mean to gay people.
I just want to say, I live in TX and I love it here- we do unfortunately have a percentage of people that are hateful and use nonsensical arguments to justify that hatred, but that is not the case for the entire population. This was a ridiculous, ignorant and hateful thing that happened and I hope that people are held accountable for their actions.
