She's just the sweetest!
Hayden Panettiere is in the last days of her pregnancy, and she's already in a caretaker mindframe.
The actress posted a sweet note about her recent trip to the Kiev Zoo, where she met Tony the Gorilla. She explained:
"I was being escorted around the backside of the monkey exhibits when there he was, a massive, furry, black creature that made even the Klitschko brothers look small!"
She and Tony shared a moment, and that's when Hayden realized she had to do something to help not only this majestic, intelligent primate, but also to benefit the paying zoo-goers in the city that she calls her 'second home' as well.
So, Hayden is paying for Tony to have a bigger, nicer enclosure with more toys to occupy his mind.
The actress posted a beautifully written note about the experience, which you can see in its entirety
This is just so, so sad!
About a week ago, 16-month-old Western lowland gorilla Kabibe was crushed under an electric enclosure door at the San Francisco Zoo.
The catch is that they knew the door was an issue for years and did nothing about it!
A zookeeper noted that when Kabibe's grandmother was carrying her into their room for the night, the zookeeper began to close the door. Next thing she knew, Kabibe's chest was crushed.
But there is so much more to this story.

The love for this man knows no boundaries.
Back in 2001, Robin Williams met Koko, a 43-year-old gorilla, and the two had a close encounter that left them both deeply moved.
Well, when the Gorilla Foundation in Northern California received the news of the actor's death earlier this week… Koko picked up on what happened and her reaction is incredibly heartbreaking.
We're so glad she's feeling better!
A baby gorilla at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park was born on March 12th, and had a rough time of it for a few weeks.
The poor lil' one had to have surgery for a collapsed lung not too long after being born via emergency C-section delivery, and even had pneumonia at one point. During that whole excruciating experience, the female baby gorilla was under intense care at the veterinary clinic.
But the newborn gorilla has recovered nicely, and recently got to meet her mother Imani and other family member for the very first time!
Here's what senior keeper Matt Gelvin said:
Awww! This is so super cute!
The gorillas at Atlanta Zoo are so lucky! They have such great keepers!
To keep the apes from getting bored, the zoo puts all the leaves into piles and hides food in them.
It's all part of enrichment, which is meant to get the animals up and moving around and get their brains going.
It keeps them happy and also just happens to be insanely cute to watch!
One of the zoo's resident gorillas, Kazi, went absolutely bananas over the piles of leaves!
Running, rolling, splashing leaves around… it looks like so much fun!!
Check out the video (above) for some tips on how you can enjoy fall some more! LOLz!
Ha! When it comes to gorillas, we tend to think of furry tanks with unstoppable fists of fury!
Or them being all smart and learning sign language or petting a kitten or something.
This gorilla is a big wimp!
Two geese flew into his enclosure and all it takes is a couple of honks to scare him off.
He keeps approaching them again, and quickly runs away as soon as they spread their wings and stand up all threatening like!
It's pretty funny to see such a giant beast afraid of two tiny geese.
Check out the video (above) to see one scaredy gorilla check out some geese!
Remember when the worst thing that happened during the government shutdown was we lost our precious panda cam??
That was totes the worst!
During the government shutdown the Smithsonian's National Zoo had to close its gates! And it lead to the saddest photo we've ever seen!
Well the zoo is now back open! Huzzah!
While it was closed, some inneresting shiz went down: there was a departure, two deaths and some SEX!
