Giant Mechanical Polar Bear Leads Greenpeace Protest

Greenpeace walked a giant polar bear through Central London in protest of Arctic drilling!

Around 3,000 environmentally conscious, caring people marched through the streets of central London as a half protest, half performance demonstration.

They were coming out against oil companies in the Arctic and they were led by a giant mechanical polar bear!!

The giant beast was the size of a double decker bus and required 15 puppeteers and 20 volunteers to walk it down Lambeth Palace Road towards Shell headquarters.

The giant bear led protesters on a call to ban oil and gas drilling in the Arctic as this would affect the habitat of polar bears and could affect the entire environment!

We're pretty sure if you want to send a message and get noticed, a giant, 3-ton bear is certainly a good way to do it! Ha!

Hopefully the gas companies got the message: "Stop messing up the Arctic or we'll use our giant bear to eat your office buildings!"

Or something along those lines. LOLz!

Homeless Polar Bear Wanders Through London!

Filed under: Music MinuteInspirationSad SadBearPolar Bear

Awww this is beary beary sad!!

But, what a simple, effective campaign attempting to reduce Arctic drilling…

The above Greenpeace video features an aimless, homeless Arctic Polar Bear forced out from her chilly, northern habitat due to money-hungry oil corporations and their effect on climate change.

The bear wanders through London's streets with Radiohead's Everything In Its Right Place ominously playing in the background.

Thom Yorke recently addressed the issue of our climate's precarious future, stating:

"We have to stop the oil giants pushing into the Arctic. An oil spill in the Arctic would devastate this region of breathtaking beauty, while burning that oil will only add to the biggest problem we all face, climate change."

So, so true. It's redicuouls to imagine how much money is being poured into an ultimately devastating source of energy, when it could be used to discover new, renewable ways to provide safe, clean energy for our already sick planet…

Happy Feet Is Headed Home

YAY!

The emperor penguin that got lost hunting and accidentally swam to New Zealand is being sent back to Antarctica.

Over $28,000 was raised to help the bird — who many call the real life Happy Feet — get back on his feet and fund his 2,000 mile journey back home.

Hopefully some of that money also went towards getting him a GPS.

Reindeer Herder Stumbles Upon Baby Woolly Mammoth

Wowzerz!

The mammoth's name is Lyuba - and that's why we never let a Russian reindeer herder name anything important.

He Herder was chasing some of Rudolph's buddies when he discovered a perfectly preserved 40,000-year-old mammoth calf poking out of the permafrost.

Natalia Fyodorova, the find's expedition leader, expects this discovery to get a lot of attention, especially because the baby was found in the same region of Arctic Yamalo-Nenetsk as the last mammoth find four years ago. She said:

"If it is true what is said about how it is preserved, this will be another sensation of global significance."

For now, scientist are planning to send Lyuba to Salekhard so they can put her in a giant freezer. Go Science!

Giant woolly mammoths have been extinct since the Earth's last Ice Age 1.8 million to around 11,500 years ago.
