This is so sad.

Alexander Polli, a world-renowned skydiver and a pioneer in BASE jumping, has died in the French Alps after a wingsuit crash on Monday. He was just 31 years old.

Polli apparently crashed into a tree while jumping in an area near Chamonix, France, that is popular, but VERY dangerous, for BASE jumpers.

One search and rescue official told NBC News that this isn't the first time they have been called out to the area:

Tough, tough day for Yohann Diniz at the 50-kilometer race walk event this morning.

The French world record holder had multiple problems at the grueling event, beginning when he suffered what is being called a "gastrointestinal accident" about 15 kilometers into the race at the Olympics in Rio.

Yes, that's exactly what it sounds like, and Diniz ran much of the race with an unidentified substance oozing down the back of his legs, as you can see from screengrabs of the event (below):

Bastille Day Attack: The Two Americans Killed Were A Father & His 11-Year-Old Son

The personal stories are what make this all the more heartbreaking.

On Thursday night in Nice, France, a truck driver went on a mile-long rampage, killing at least 84 people and injuring hundreds more — including dozens that are still fighting for their lives — as the country celebrated Bastille Day.

And even though we were already aware that two Americans had been killed in the tragedy, it's even more gut-wrenching now to learn more about the lives lost — in this case, a father and son taken far too soon.

Sean Copeland, 51, and his 11-year-old son, Brodie, were killed in the attack as they were enjoying the Bastille Day festivities in the middle of a family vacation to the south of France.

The father and son, from a small town in Texas, were watching fireworks and enjoying their time together with the rest of the family when tragedy struck, according to family friend Bill Bishop.

Bishop spoke to People about the Copelands, a family that will be remembered for far more than just those final moments (below):

Bastille Day Attack: Suspect Identified As Death Toll Rises To 84 — With Dozens More In Critical Condition

We are continuing to learn more about the terror attack in Nice, France on Thursday night, and it continues to get more and more tragic.

According to media reports and the words of French president Francois Hollande, the death toll has risen to 84 people — all killed when a truck driver mowed down a large crowd during Bastille Day celebrations in the southern city.

We also have learned the identity of the man behind the carnage; officials say he is Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, and it is now confirmed that police did kill him Thursday night to stop the attack.

He was a French citizen of Tunisian descent, and even though he had been known to police in connection with minor crimes and petty theft, nothing he had done had gotten him on France's terror watch list.

A British tourist who was an eyewitness to the horrific Bastille Day attacks yesterday in Nice, France, went on live TV late Thursday night and said one of the most tone-deaf things we can imagine in the midst of such a tragedy.

Lucy Nesbitt-Comaskey was being interviewed by Sky News and asked about the tragedy — she was in the area of the attack on vacation — when she said something unbelievably insulting and insensitive about it:
