I often get questions about red wine. If you are going to drink alcohol, red wine is the best choice. It contains resveratrol, an antioxidant in red grapes that is good for the heart!

Study Shows Wine Strengthens Bones

Drinking wine

But beer and liquor doesn't do shiz! Sorry, dudes!

A study analyzing the relationship between diet and bone density has found that moderate amounts of wine, such as a glass a day, can reduce the risk of osteoporosis.

Researchers came to the conclusion after studying over 1,000 pairs of British female twins in their mid-fifties, explaining:

"Moderate intakes of alcohol from wine were associated with a higher bone mineral density and the consumption of a traditional 20th-century English diet was linked with a lower bone density."

The typical "English diet" included fish and chips, baked beans, meat pies and cooked meats. Surprisingly, the researchers didn't find much evidence that our bones benefit from a diet high in fruit and vegetables either.

Although it wasn't clear how or why wine builds bone strength, previous research suggests it may be due to chemicals, called polyphenols, found in the skin of grapes.
