Western lawmakers hope so!

Senators in Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota and even Rhode Island have all thrown their support towards the The National Bison Legacy Act - legislation that would introduce the bison as America's national mammal.

But before President Teddy Roosevelt's intervention, the population was less than 1,000. Today, it is nearly half a million.

Legislators hope that the act will raise awareness on the bison's impact on America's cultural history.

So, will the bison be right beside the bald eagle someday?

We'll find out soon enough!
