Anton Yelchin's Parents Announce Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Fiat Chrysler In Emotional Press Conference

Anton Yelchin's parents take action.

On Tuesday, Anton Yelchin's parents, Viktor and Irina, officially filed their lawsuit seeking punitive damages for the wrongful death of their son.

As we previously reported, the late actor's parents were planning to sue Fiat Chrysler, ZF North America, and AutoNation because of a faulty e-stick, which they believe led Anton left in park and yet his Jeep Cherokee did roll back and crush him against his security gate.

And according to TMZ, legal docs say that the Star Trek Beyond star DID suffer before passing:

"Anton Yelchin was crushed and lingered alive for some time, trapped and suffocating until his death."

In today's emotional press conference, Viktor and Irina expressed their grief over their loss, with the 27-year-old's dad sharing through tears:

"In spite of our grief we decided to come here to prevent other families for the same tragedy. Anton was our only son and he was a remarkable human being very modest, very simple, very honest, generous, loving. It is wrong, it is against nature when the parents bury their own child."

Gary Dordick, the family's attorney, also explained:

Anton Yelchin's Parents To File Wrongful Death Lawsuit After Tragic Jeep Accident

Anton Yelchin's parents are seeking action.

We can't imagine what Anton Yelchin's parents have been going through since the death of their son back in June.

The Star Trek Beyond actor passed away when his 2015 Jeep Cherokee rolled backwards, leaving him pinned against his security gate. In the aftermath of his death, it was revealed the specific model was part of a voluntary recall because of a flaw with the e-stick which caused drivers to unintentionally leave their cars in neutral instead of parked.

A class action suit was then filed against Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, the company which owns Jeep.

Well on Monday, TMZ reported the 27-year-old's parents, Irina and Viktor Yelchin, have hired a lawyer and are planning to file a lawsuit against the corporation for punitive damages in "the wrongful death of their son due to significant defects."

They're also looking to sue ZF North America, which manufactured the vehicle, and AutoNation, where Anton seemingly bought his car from.

We'll keep you update with any news of a forthcoming suit.

Anton Yelchin

Ugh, scary!

In the wake of Anton Yelchin's tragic death, fellow Jeep owners are frantically trying to make sure the same freak accident doesn't happen to them.

To catch you up, the 27-year-old actor was found Sunday pinned between his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and the gate of his Studio City home after the vehicle rolled backward down the steep driveway. This model has been recalled numerous times for a flawed gear design that makes it difficult to tell if your SUV is in neutral or park. So tragic.

Just one problem… dealerships around the country don't have the equipment or the four-hour software to fix the gear shifter! And the ones that do are backed up with wait lists of over 60 cars. Wow!

In the meantime, TMZ reports service employees are giving owners tutorials to hopefully avoid the highly dangerous problem.

This makes us so nervous!!!

Anton Yelchin

The death of talented actor Anton Yelchin has officially been ruled accidental.

As you know, the 27-year-old was found Sunday pinned between his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the gate of his Studio City home after the car rolled backward down the steep driveway. So tragic.

Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County coroner's office now officially confirms the Star Trek star died of accidental "blunt traumatic asphyxia," People reports.

An LAPD spokesperson also confirms Yelchin's Jeep is the same model that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles recalled in April for its gearshift design that makes it difficult to tell what gear the vehicle is in, explaining:

"We are looking into that. The investigation is still ongoing and the traffic detectives will look at all of those factors as they would in any traffic collision investigation. So, at this time we're not sure what caused it, but that's something investigators are looking at."

The investigation into the exact circumstances of Anton's death is ongoing, and it will be about 6-8 weeks until toxicology results are expected to be available.

What a devastating freak accident. We'll keep you posted as we learn more.
