Obesity Rates In Pets On The Rise

Fat dog

It seems pets are following their owners, right into obesity.

Figures show that literally one in three dogs is clinically obese. That's higher than human obesity levels.

A British animal group, the PDSA, said that a cube of cheese given to a dog is the equivalent of you eating a half a pizza.

Cats are suffering from obesity just as much as dogs. Most likely because many owners just leave food out for their cats to feed themselves.

The myth of cat self control is merely a feline plot to get as much food as they want.

A leading specialist vet in obesity said:

"PDSA’s Report reveals some very worrying findings. The use of inappropriate treats is particularly concerning, especially the frequency with which these are being given

Although there are many contributing factors to pet obesity, inappropriate feeding habits, especially the use of unbalanced foodstuffs as treats, is a major concern in the on going rise of pet obesity."

So remember, feed your dog a healthy, veterinarian approved diet, and make sure to work in plenty of exercise.

We're sure it wouldn't hurt you to get out and walk more either.

Obese Dog's Weight Loss Plan

Been there!

Samson, perhaps one of Australia's most obese dogs, is put on a strict
diet to shed some weight half his boy mass, before he's considered healthy.

It's not the pooches fault, his old owners used to feed him human food (pizza and pies), which — you should know — is totally bad for you dog.

We wish Samson the best of luck on this diet!
