Thai Protestors Use Hunger Games's Three Finger Salute To Resist Coup!

Katniss would approve.

Thailand's military, that recently staged a coup against and overthrew the democratic government on May 22nd, are now trying to control a novel (literally) type of protest of the coup.

Since this weekend, the three-fingered salute from The Hunger Games has been used to resist the change in regime.

In response, military rulers are reportedly monitoring this new form of demonstration, and have vowed to arrest large groups of protestors who refuse to lower their arms.

Wow, sounds like there is a lot of freedom of speech in this new government, huh?! Remind you of anyplace? We don't know…like Panem!

Thailand has also banned criticism of the junta by blocking access to hundreds of websites, and shutting down politically affiliated TV stations.

Did they think President Snow was the protagonist of the Hunger Games?!

Now, 6,000 soldiers are in the capitol of Bangkok in order to deal with protestors. We'll see how this situation continues! If hover crafts are called in, or the government starts a state sponsored gladiatorial match with kids, we'd like to think the UN would get involved.

Endangered Animals Wrongly Seized After Sacntuary Founder Speaks Against Thai Government

govt-raid-thai-zoo.jpg

As we previously mentioned, in Petchaburi, Thailand Thai officials have raided the Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT) and Elephant Nature Park (ENP).

The founders of these sanctuaries had recently spoken out against (possibly government sanctioned) elephant poaching.

One of these founders said:

"The situation is desperate. Armed Department of National Parks enforcement officers have forced their way onto our properties and have begun confiscating animals.

They claim we don’t have necessary paperwork but this is a lie. I’m horrified that innocent animals are now paying the price for my commitment to preventing illegal poaching.

The DNP personnel are not properly trained or prepared to move or manage the animals we have in our facility and many are likely to be injured or killed as a result of these unjust actions.

Further, the last time DNP confiscated animals they were never seen again."

The DNP (Department of National Parks) has not given out any plan as to what will be done with the animals or even any specific reason for the confiscation.

A nationally recognized animal trainer said:

"The actions of the Thai officials appear to be financially and politically motivated and have nothing to do with the safety, security or welfare of the animals housed at either facility."

This is sad and just plain wrong.

Someone needs to do something!
