2 Chainz says he had a meeting with Ariana Grande following the controversy regarding her song 7 rings.
As we reported, after the thank u, next singer dropped her hit single, social media users thought the track sounded too similar to the rapper’s song, Spend It. Additionally, some felt the 7 rings music video stole the aesthetic of his Pretty Girls Like Trap Music album cover.

In an interview with Genius published on Friday, the 41-year-old discussed the scandal. He revealed:
“I want to say it didn’t bother me, but once again, you don’t want to get caught up into that, ‘Man you’re petty’… You know what I’m saying? Because I’ve thought that somebody has taken a little something out of my DNA before, and I haven’t said anything because I don’t want anybody… It’s supposed to be… what is it? Flattering, or whatever it’s supposed to be.”
Amid the drama, 2 Chainz said he reached out to Grande through her manager, and the two had a meeting.
“They set it up so we could actually meet and talk face to face… I think that kind of changed everything because I started getting what was going on, having a clear understanding of what was going on. She was more or less saying that, ‘Well, yeah, I thought people knew I took it from you.’ And I said, ‘Well, how would people know that?’… What kinda points do I get off snapping on Ariana Grande or dissing her? I don’t get anything off that.'”
After they met face to face, the two musicians teamed up for 7 rings (Remix), and Rule the World — off his new LP, Rap or Go to the League.
As we wrote, Puerto Rican rapper Princess Nokia accused Grande of plagiarizing her song Mine, from her mixtape 1992. She said in a shady Twitter clip:
“Does that sound familiar to you? ’Cause that sound really familiar to me. Ain’t that the lil song I made about brown women and their hair? Hmmm… sounds about white.”
Ariana later apologized on Instagram by writing:
“I think her intention was to be like … yay a white person disassociating the negative stariotype[sic] that is paired with the word ‘weave’ … however i’m so sorry if my response was out of pocket or if it came across the wrong way. thanks for opening the conversation and like … to everyone for talking to me about it. it’s never my intention to offend anybody.'”
