Was 21 Savage’s U-Visa Application Responsible For His ICE Arrest?

21 Savage’s recent ICE arrest may have been triggered by his move to become a legal resident.
As we reported, the rapper was arrested on Sunday by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials for allegedly overstaying his visa, and now faces possible removal from the States.
The Bank Account artist’s lawyer Charles H. Kluck has since told press they will “fight” to keep Savage in the country, claiming the arrest was “based upon incorrect information about prior criminal charges.”

Kluck elaborated on the situation Tuesday, explaining to TMZ that ICE knew about the 26-year-old rapper’s status since 2017 when he applied for a U-Visa. The lawyer added that ICE dropped the ball by basing the arrest, in part, on the felony drug charges Savage pled guilty to in 2014 — which were expunged from his record last year.
Interestingly enough, Savage’s U-Visa application may have caused the arrest, as the filing prompts the USCIS to investigate and perform a background check. This would have revealed that the performer was born in the U.K. and came to the U.S. legally in 2005 with a visa that expired the next year.

Savage, who has apparently been in the country illegally despite his pending application, decided to ask for a U-Visa because his three three children who were born in the U.S. would likely grant him a form of relief.
The visa would also allow him to leave the country to tour, but ICE officials believe Savage’s previous felony conviction disqualifies him for the visa.
Savage’s cousin, rapper Young Nudy, was also arrested in the same bust due to a warrant he had out from an incident in 2017. According to police, Nudy is accused of shooting a man twice in the hip and once in the buttocks.
As funny as a bullet to the buttocks may sound, please refrain from making memes about it…
