Ariana Grande might have just spilled on her relationship with Ricky Alvarez!
On Friday, the Wicked actress released her eighth studio album Petal and quickly drew all eyes — or all ears — on Bad Thing (Bunny Hop)… because fans think she’s totally singing about Ricky! In the first verse, Ariana asks why a “feeling” for someone “should be something to resist.” She goes on:
“I can learn your body language / ‘Cause it never used to be like this / I’ll be your student, fluent / Won’t you teach me? I insist”

So the person she’s singing about has been close with her in the past… Hmmm! The pop star goes on in the chorus:
“Have you been this fine the whole damn time? / This is a bad thing / This is a bad, bad thing”
Ricky definitely fits the description of being “fine” LOLz!

In the second verse, Ariana goes on to sing about the subject of her song being a “real good boyfriend in [her] dreams, and in real life,” and about falling in love with the same person twice:
“Meet you by the staircase where we fell in love, let’s do it twice”
OMG!!! Fans will know Ariana previously dated Ricky from 2015 to 2016.
In the bridge, Ariana says the person she’s singing about has been “such a good boy through all of this noise” — possibly referring to all the scrutiny she’s been on the receiving end of across the past few years, including for her controversial relationship with Ethan Slater. You can listen to the full song (below):
On X (Twitter), fans are convinced the playful lyrics are about the former backup dancer. One fan pointed out that Ari previously dated Ricky when she was working on her Dangerous Woman album, which features her in bunny ears on the cover — lending a possible tie to the “bunny hop” aspect of the song title! Another fan noted the lyrics “match their situation perfect,” while a third wrote:
“Folks, it’s so simple. We barely even know exactly when she started with [Ethan]] and much less when they actually ended. Most likely she and Rick have been together for way longer than we know. Obviously it’s for him!!!!!”
As we’ve been following, the 33-year-old rekindled her romance with the photographer after breaking up with Ethan earlier this year. Ricky has been seen with Ari on multiple occasions recently, including at several of her Eternal Sunshine Tour shows, where she’s made a habit of changing the lyrics of Thank U, Next to reflect their rekindled romance.
