It’s a wonder why we haven’t seen more flurries of cyberattacks like these more often, right?
It seems like everything is being attacked these days: from Sony‘s Playstation Network to Best Buy, and now it looks like Gmail has been hit.
And this comes just days after the U.S. and the U.K. have stated that certain cyber attacks can and will be seen as acts of war.
Just on Wednesday Gmail was hit with an attack that originated in China, and it resulted in the compromise of Gmail accounts of hundreds of high-profile individuals in several nations:
Eric Grosse, engineering director of Google’s security team, described a campaign to collect Gmail users’ passwords that he says appears to have originated in Jinan, China. The hackers targeted the accounts of “senior U.S. government officials, Chinese political activists, officials in several Asian countries (predominantly South Korea), military personnel and journalists.”
Honestly, we don’t understand why people have to ruin things for other people. Other than money as an obvious one, the reasoning for that kind of destructive mindset shouldn’t even exist. At the sake of sounding like a Hippie: That’s just not cool, man. Why can’t we all just get along?
But unfortunately it may never be that way, and until then, change your passwords and beef up your security options, people!
