OoooOOOooooooo!!
And the second installment in Ryan Murphy’s horrifically wonderful FX drama American Horror Story is called…
…
ASYLUM!
Ok, so the title is not really a shocker as we already know the anthology’s sophomore season is set in a mental institution for the criminally insane in 1964, BUT, as Ryan so masterfully stated today:
“We picked ‘Asylum’ because it not only describes the setting – an insane asylum run by Jessica Lange’s character which was formerly a tuberculosis ward – but also signifies a place of haven for the unloved and the unwanted. This year’s theme is about sanity and tackling real life horrors.”
Eeee! Sounds far more soul-piercing than season one, which ultimately dealt with common but irrational fears like supernatural hauntings, home invasions, and murders, among other creeptastic occurrences.
Plus, sanity is SUCH a volatile subject! Who can really say what a “normal” mind looks like, especially since diversity in experience, education, brain-structure and MANY other components make humans inherently different in the way we view reality!
And yet, we are all so desperate to be normal…
Now THAT’s insane!
