It is being reported that some of the Arrested Development cast members were edited into scenes during post-production, all due to their busy schedules! Apparently, several had to shoot in front a green screen!
A source cites one particular scene between Lucille Bluth and Lucille Austero in which the characters are shown engaging but look to be green-screened in:
“It does look kind of like the Austin Powers stuff — you can tell that it was green screened.”
The problem with this isn’t so much with its visual effects, but rather the lessening of in-person improvisation, says the first source:
├óΓé¼┼ôI think the reason most people like the [original] show is because it├óΓé¼Γäós off-the-cuff and improvised. You can really see that the actors and extras really, really like working with each other… For a different show it wouldn├óΓé¼Γäót be such a big deal, but because of the nature of the comedy, and the writing, and the direction, [green screening] is something that I think is not a good idea ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ and I think a lot of fans would agree that they├óΓé¼Γäód rather it not be made if it is not going to be made in the same style.├óΓé¼┬¥
A second source also explained that Henry Winkler, the Bluth family lawyer Barry Zuckerkorn, was added into many of his scenes during post-production, too:
“I’ve gotten to see a couple episodes and I didn’t notice any problems. It wasn’t the most extensive scenes, but everything I’ve seen, the post-production team did a great job with, so I wouldn’t say I’m worried — I’d say I’m curious.”
While it’s no secret that the show’s actors’ had conflicting schedules, show creator Mitch Hurwitz revealed that the format would be changed slightly to accommodate the cast:
“The only way we could get everybody together for what we’ll call loosely an anthology or a series was to kind of dedicate each episode to a different character’s point of view.”
We wonder if green-screening was a last resort…
