Now that the cast of Mean Girls are bonafide starlets, it’s hard to imagine a time when their lives were much simpler!
But their recent reunion got us thinking just about those good ol’ days…
In 2004, when the cult classic was just released, Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, Lacey Chabert, and Rachel McAdams were all relatively unknown and without major scandals. Though everyone in the cast grew up in the spotlight thanks to their backgrounds as child actresses, the girls had yet to be regulars in the tabloids.
Take the fresh-faced Amanda, for example, who in 2004 was just a 19-year-old soap opera actress. Amanda’s boyfriend at the time was Micah Alberti, a fellow soap actor who went on to star in very small films. Though the pair dated for four years, which is practically a lifetime in Hollywood, barely anyone remembers the relationship in comparison with Amanda’s other high-profile romances, like her dalliance with Ryan Phillipe.

While Amanda’s fame train was slowly gearing up in 2004, Lindsay’s star power was about to skyrocket. Linds, who proudly flaunted her red hair in the early 2000s, was dating Wilmer Valderrama (sorry, Demi Lovato), at the time of Mean Girls release. Lilo even guest-starred on an episode of That ’70s show alongside Wilmer!

Besides wracking up acting credits, Lindsay also released her debut album, Speak, in 2004. While the album wasn’t a major success, it did earn a #4 spot on the Billboard 200 chart for twenty weeks. Speak featured a song about Wilmer (To Know Your Name) and a track about life in the limelight (Rumors).

While Lindsay was running from the paparazzi and macking on Wilmer in 2004, Rachel was securing her spot as an A-List actress while simultaneously falling in love. In 2004, the gorgeous actress starred alongside boyfriend Ryan Gosling in the cult-classic film, The Notebook.
Rachel dated Ryan on-and-off from 2004 to 2008, and after the Notebook the actress went on to star in many more successful films.

Out of all the girls, Lacey was definitely the most accomplished child actress of the group (remember Party of Five, you guys?!) and had the most voice acting credits to her name. Mean Girls heralded Lacey’s return to the public eye and we were so impressed by the actress’ transformation from a young girl to a gorgeous woman!
At the time of the film’s release, Lacey had just wrapped up her stint voicing the character of The Wild Thornberrys‘ Eliza Thornberry, a cartoon on Nickelodeon that ran from 1998 to 2004.

While Lindsay, Amanda, Lacey, and Rachel were in totally different places in their careers at the time of Mean Girls, one thing is for certain: the cast successfully came together to make one awesome movie!
