Avril Lavigne finally returns to the stage!
On Saturday, the Hello Kitty singer performed her latest single Fly during the Special Olympics World Games!
Debuting her new song at the opening ceremony for the El Lay event marked the 30-year-old’s first performance in over a year!

Last month, Lavigne opened up about battling Lyme Disease since she was diagnosed in 2014, explaining she is going through treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.
The singer shared a heartfelt sentiment on her Instagram, revealing that she wrote the new song to “encourage people who are facing challenges, to encourage strength and to empower.”
Honored to have performed my song Fly at the opening ceremony for the Special Olympics tonight. All proceeds go to support the Special Olympics. This was a very beautiful night for me. Congratulations to all the athletes. Thank you to everyone who supports the Avril Lavigne Foundation. It has been a difficult year fighting through Lyme Disease for me and I am so happy to have made it on stage tonight for the first performance in a year. Thank you for having me and please enjoy my song Fly. I wrote this song to encourage people who are facing challenges, to encourage strength and to empower. The games unite thousands of athletes representing over 150 countries from around the world, and before Avril’s performance, the opening ceremony was also kicked off with a speech from Michelle Obama!
