Fyre Festival, much??
Last weekend, Nicki Minaj reportedly traveled to China where she was scheduled to perform at the Djakarta Warehouse Project festival, billed as the Chinese spin-off to the annual dance extravaganza in Bali, Indonesia.

The only problem? The entire thing was a huge scam!
According to a statement from DWP International, the use of their brand for the concert in Shanghai was “unauthorized.” The notice read:
“The event rumored to take place in Shanghai on 17th & 18th of November 2018 is an unauthorized use of DWP trademark… DWP as a brand, has no association with the event.”
While the rapper has stayed mum on the controversy, she seemingly addressed the drama in a viral video where she says she will return to China “with a better partner.” As seen on Twitter:

According to Australia’s ABC News, fans spent HUNDREDS of dollars to see Minaj perform at the now-canceled event.
Not surprisingly, the fiasco immediately drew comparisons to Fyre Festival, the 2017 calamity that resulted in founder Billy McFarland getting sentenced to six years in prison for wire fraud.
