While magazines are slowly starting to embrace diversity, Vogue‘s May issue really is ahead of the curve.
Andreja Pejic can say she’s the first ever transgender model to land a profile in the fashion bible, as well as one of the first trans beauties to score a major beauty campaign!
We can’t wait to see her Make Up For Ever ads!
But back to landing Vogue, the Bosnia-Herzegovina-born 23-year-old looks stunning in a Ralph Lauren trench coat, Michael Kors tank, and Chloe pants inside the glossy.

She’s an inspiration! Andreja revealed of her childhood:
“I wanted to stop puberty in its early tracks. I was worried about my feet being too big, my hands being too big, my jawline being too strong…Society doesn’t tell you that you can be trans.I thought about being gay, but it didn’t fit. . . . I thought, Well, maybe this is just something you like to imagine sometimes. Try to be a boy and try to be normal.”
And it wasn’t until three years after being discovered at a Melbourne, Australia McDonald’s that she was walking the runways in Paris!
Then it was just last year that she underwent the gender-confirmation surgery.

On the mainstreaming of transgender identity: “There are just more categories now. It’s good. We’re finally figuring out that gender and sexuality are more complicated. There was definitely a lot of ‘Oh, you’re going to lose what’s special about you. You’re not going to be interesting anymore. There are loads of pretty girls out there.'” In the same vein, one agent actually told Andreja: “It’s better to be androgynous than a tranny.”
On her worldwide fame: “Being known to the whole world with this transition, I thought, Who is ever going to love me? How am I going to have a relationship with a man if all of this is public? Then I got to a place where I was like, ‘I’m successful and happy with what I’ve achieved. There’s nothing I should be ashamed of. You can take it or leave it.'”
Wow.
Well, we see a lot of great things in her future!
