Fans are torn over Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s rumored pay for Wicked… But you may not want to be too quick to jump to conclusions.
In the wake of the musical’s release, fans have been speculating how much each actor involved made off the record-breaking blockbuster. An alleged salary report making its rounds on TikTok and Reddit claimed Cynthia, who plays the lead character Elphaba, AKA the Wicked Witch of the West, earned just $1 million, while her co-lead Ari, who plays Galinda AKA Glinda the Good Witch, made a whopping $15 million!
WHOA! We get that Ariana is one of the world’s BIGGEST pop stars, but it’s not like Cynthia is an unknown! We mean, she’s won an Emmy, a Grammy, and a Tony… She’s just an Oscar win away from becoming the youngest EGOT winner in history! So a $14 MILLION pay gap would be kind of a slap in the face, TBH.

But a source has since pulled back the curtain to reveal more than just a powerless wizard!
On Tuesday, a spokesperson for Universal told The Hollywood Reporter the stars actually received EQUAL pay:
“Reports of pay disparity between Cynthia and Ariana are completely false and based on internet fodder. The women received equal pay for their work on Wicked.”
Wow! Now THERE’s a twist!
Like we said, Ari is definitely a more known name, but Cynthia’s cred is undeniable. We’re glad to hear these two received equal pay!
