Ariana Grande DUNKS On 'Dumb' Critics Of Ethan Slater Relationship In New Bonus Track!

Ariana Grande has another message for all the haters of her relationship with Ethan Slater! And this time she put it to music!

The couple had quite a messy start to their romance. Days after the news of her divorce from ex-husband Dalton Gomez broke, it came out the pop star was dating her Wicked co-star — her Wicked co-star who was married. To his high school sweetheart. And they’d just welcomed a child together. Yeah. Oof.

At the time, some sources swore nothing happened between them until after they broke up with their respective partners. Though even if that’s true, if they met, broke up, and started dating, it’s hardly innocent. Especially with the stories coming out that Ariana hung out with Ethan’s wife and held their child. But the timeline suggests it’s even worse — like maybe they had an affair while working on the movie! That’s certainly what the evidence has led a LOT of fans out there to believe.

Yet, Ari won’t ‘fess up to it! She has repeatedly insisted in interviews that nothing scandalous happened! She told Vanity Fair in September 2024 that because of all the major life changes she went through in a short amount of time, “the tabloids” created “something that paid their bills” and that the “popular narrative” everyone ran with (AKA the cheating and/or homewrecking rumor) was not the reality:

“The most disappointing part was to see so many people believe the worst version of it. That was definitely a tough ride.”

Tough? Tough was what Ethan’s ex-wife, Lilly Jay, went through! We’re sure she’d say so… if she could!

And that is the defense Ariana is sticking with to this day. Everyone has it wrong, but the real story is private so you just have to take her word for it. Uh huh. But this time, it’s got a melody!

On a new bonus track off eternal sunshine deluxe: brighter days ahead, which dropped on Friday, she’s selling that version all over again! But this time she has some even stronger words for the critics. Everyone who questioned what happened with Ethan while they were away in Hampstead, the London neighborhood she lived in while making Wicked. Idiots. The new song is even called Hampstead. In it, she calls everyone on the internet who believes she did anything wrong “dumb” — and insists once again we’re all “wrong” about what went down. The singer kicks it off by singing:

“I left my heart at a pub in Hampstead / And I misplaced my mind in a good way / Threw away my reputation but saved us more heartache / Yes, I know it seems f**ked up, and you’re right / But quite frankly you’re still wrong about everything / So far off, your seat’s nowhere near the table”

See, you’re not even there. How could you possibly know what it’s like? But then it gets meaner…

“But I find something sweet in your peculiar behavior / ’Cause I think to be so dumb must be nice.”

Jeez…

Everyone is literally “dumb” for getting the impression this man left his wife and newborn child for a pop star. K. Ariana continues, making it clear fans don’t have — and won’t ever get — the tea on her life:

“What makes you think you’re even invited? / The doors are closed with lights off inside and / All the while thеre’s no one home / You’rе still outside / I wonder why.”

In the chorus, the Victorious alum says she’s throwing caution to the wind and taking the risk despite all the negativity coming her way:

“What’s wrong with a little bit of poison? Tell me / I would rather feel everything than nothing every time / Fear me, stranger, a little bit of sugar, danger / I’d rather be seen and alive than dying by your point of view.”

And that’s not all! Ariana goes on to further address the criticism online about her romance, singing:

“You think you’ve read the book I’m still writing / I can’t imagine wanting so badly to be right / Guess I’m forever on your mind / I wonder why.”

At this point, if you’re going to keep saying we’ve got it all wrong, then give us the full story! Write a song about THAT! Because no matter how you phrase it in interviews and through songs, it’s going to be hard to change anyone’s minds about what happened! Too much has come out that’s sus as hell!
