Ariana Grande has two “friends” to thank for still being perceived as a Rising Star.
On Friday, the Wicked lead attended the Palm Springs Film Festival in California, where Jennifer Coolidge presented her with the coveted Rising Star Award. And she didn’t hesitate to crack a joke or two in her acceptance speech!
After accepting the award and taking to the podium, the 31-year-old poked fun at the idea of being perceived as a Rising Star despite her years-long career in the music industry before transitioning more seriously into acting:
“You don’t know how much it means to me. I’ve been performing since I was a child, so I never thought at the age of 31 I would be hearing the words ‘rising star’ again.”
So, the Yes, And? singer gave a shoutout to two specific “friends” who’ve helped keep her young:
“So I wanted to start by thanking my two friends: Botox and Juvéderm. I thought I’d be hearing ‘slightly withering star’ or ‘drooping star’ by now so thank you.”
HA! But wait… We thought she said she quit getting filler? In 2023, the pop star revealed in a Vogue Beauty Secrets video that she “had a ton of lip filler over the years and Botox,” but stopped in 2018. Then in September of 2024, she admitted in a Vanity Fair lie detector test that she “had fillers in various places and Botox, but I stopped like four years ago,” and that that was the extent of the work she’d had done. So is she officially back at it?? Not quite.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight after her awards speech, the Nickelodeon alum clarified:
“Oh my gosh, my joke, my bit… I’m still clean, I’m still clean. But when I start going again I’ll let you know, I mean it. I really want to be transparent as a beauty founder. As the founder of r.e.m. beauty I think it’s important to have transparency. But I love it and I support it, but I am still four years clean.”
