The Audit Bureau of Circulation has released magazine sales figures for 2011!
So who was newsstand gold and who wasn’t?
Mila Kunis was by far the year’s best selling cover girl. The Friends with Benefits actress was GQ‘s best selling issue, drove sales up 15% with her W cover and over performed with Cosmo.
Justin Timberlake bombed on two different occasions. His W cover with Amanda Seyfried in October sold a minuscule 15,000 copies, making it the mag’s second worst seller of the year. JT also covered Esquire‘s October issue, which was their #1 worst selling issue with only 73,000 sold.
Another surprising bomb? Vanity Fair‘s February cover star Justin Bieber. The teenage heartthrob only moved 245,800 copies, making it their third worst seller since Graydon Carter took over the magazine in 1992.
Ouch.
Kim Kardashian wasn’t a consistent seller either. The reality star nabbed Glamour and Cosmo‘s best sellers and did so-so for Harper├óΓé¼Γäós Bazaar, Self and Lucky. But her December Marie Claire cover failed to deliver and her January 2012 Glamour cover is expected to under perform as well.
Lady GaGa had similar results with her makeup-free Harper’s Bazaar cover was the mag’s third worst seller, but did really well with Vogue to make it their second best seller of 2011.
Guess that means we’ll be seeing a lot less of the Justins, Kim and GaGa in 2012.
