How could Fox possibly live up to expectations after announcing they were doing a 6-episode revival of the classic teen drama Beverly Hills 90210?? By completely subverting them!
The new series will star original cast members Gabrielle Carteris, Jennie Garth, Brian Austin Green, Jason Priestley, Tori Spelling, and Ian Ziering, but this time they’ll be playing… Gabrielle Carteris, Jennie Garth, Brian Austin Green, Jason Priestley, Tori Spelling, and Ian Ziering.

Yep, it’s a meta reunion à la Seinfeld on Curb Your Enthusiasm, in which the cast will be playing “heightened” versions of themselves — who are trying to get a 90210 revival off the ground.
Tori spelling explained it best, saying:

“We don’t want to be the last ones like doing the reboot thing, and no one wants to see like old versions of ourselves, but they do want to see us playing our characters, so what we’re doing is the entire cast is playing heightened versions of themselves. Think Curb Your Enthusiasm episodes, in an hourlong show, and we’re all playing heightened versions, so it could be fictional, it could be nonfictional, people will have to guess. And then we will have pop-ins, because we’re behind the scenes trying to do the reboot.”

Pop-ins? So maybe we’ll be seeing Luke Perry and Shannen Doherty after all?
