Blake Lively was remorseful for at least one of her actions during the It Ends With Us drama!
In her amended complaint to her original sexual harassment lawsuit against Justin Baldoni, which the 37-year-old actress filed on Tuesday, she claimed to have apologized to the screenwriter of It Ends With Us after her husband, Ryan Reynolds, rewrote a famous rooftop scene in the film. Those who have seen the movie or followed the drama most likely know which one we are talking about! It is the one in which Lily Bloom first meets Ryle Kincaid on the rooftop of his building. During the New York City premiere of the movie in August, Blake let it slip to E! News that Ryan “wrote” this scene. The problem with that? For starters, people realized if he helped out, it likely happened during the writers’ strike, so he broke WGA rules! He could have faced serious consequences — like getting blacklisted in Hollywood! What else? Blake claimed “nobody” knew about the rewrite! Yes really! Not even the screenwriter Christy Hall! In fact, she thought the new dialogue was improvised! Christy told People:
“There were a couple of little things that I thought had been improvised. Like when he says, ‘Pretty please with a cherry on top,’ and she talks about the maraschino cherries. When I saw a cut I was like, ‘Oh, that’s cute. That must have been a cute improvised thing.’ So if I’m being told that Ryan wrote that, then great, how wonderful. There were a few little flourishes that I did not write, but I assumed that they had been improvised on set. But, again, like I said, the moments that I felt like needed to be honored are there. So I recognize the scene and I’m proud of the scene. And if those flourishes came from Ryan, I think that’s wonderful.”
What! The screenwriter didn’t know! Blake couldn’t have given her the courtesy of a heads-up?! Guess we shouldn’t be surprised the Gossip Girl alum never said anything and passed it off as improv due to Justin’s claims that she and Ryan took over the entire movie from him…
However, it sounds like Blake felt bad — not because she overstepped boundaries by secretly letting Ryan work on the scene! Instead, she felt “awful” about Christy getting “ambushed” with a question about her comments! In her amended complaint, she claimed she reached out to the writer to give “a heartfelt apology that her comment resulted in questions to Ms. Hall” on August 11 — three days after the interview dropped. Blake even included a screenshot of the email she sent to Christy that read:
“I heard you were ambushed at your junket with a question about something I said on the red carpet. I feel awful. I never would’ve said anything that I thought could be used against you, or anyone. I was just proud of my partner and feeling grateful for the ways in which he shows up for me. I believe firmly that two things can be true. In this case, he can show up for me and do great work doing so, and you can do great work which got us all here. But the media will make things more black and white. And I should’ve seen that before speaking off the cuff. I was frazzled for a multitude of reasons that you may know something about, or not. But in that moment, all I was trying to focus on was love and positivity. And the key source of that for me is my family. Which is why it was a crutch for me to talk about him.”
Of course, she was “frazzled” at the time due to the drama surrounding the alleged smear campaign she says Justin launched against her in retaliation for speaking up about her sexual harassment claims.
Blake went on to say she was “mortified” by how her remarks “translated with regard to” Christy before repeatedly apologizing to her:
“I pride myself in being thoughtful and trying not to step in land mines. But I did. It was such an avoidable, own goal. And I’m so sorry for any upset or hurt it may have caused you, or left you feeling badly in any way. That was never my intention. I was thinking about audiences loving real life love and seeing that on screen is inspiring. I should’ve been holding all of that AND you while speaking publicly and I didn’t do that. I’m sorry.”
In the email, Blake noted she “spoke about” Christy “during the many days of junkets, but of course the one that gets shared back to you is the one where I give my husband credit for his invisible work he did on the movie.” The A Simple Flavor star then praised Ryan again, saying she “quite literally could not have gotten through [the film] without him.” However, she pointed out that it is “not [Hall’s] bag to carry.” Concluding her message, Blake said she hoped to “talk more one day” to Christy and “get together” sometime before adding:
“Today is a congratulations, a celebration and an I’m sorry for any upset I may have caused in an otherwise beautiful moment.”

How did Christy feel about the email? According to Blake, Christy “graciously accepted” her apology and said that “she did not take Ms. Lively’s comment personally.” Taylor Swift‘s former bestie did not include a receipt of the response from the writer included in the complaint — if there is one. Christy, we need confirmation all this happened STAT! LOLz!
But on a more serious note, looking back on the situation, Blake argued in her complaint that this is an example of Justin and Wayfarer Studios co-founder Steve Sarowitz “scheming with their crisis PR team to find a way to exploit this moment to ‘flip the narrative’ and paint Mr. Reynolds as anti-feminist.” Hmm.
