Well, if there’s anyone we never expected to hear from again, it’s Brian Laundrie.
At the end of a harrowing investigation, we learned definitively that the 23-year-old killed his girlfriend Gabby Petito. He strangled her with his bare hands on a freezing night in Grand Teton National Park. He wrote in his notebook that they were lost and confused — trying to say it was a mercy killing to keep her from dying of exposure. But of course he didn’t act contrite after. He went home and hid what he’d done, with the help of his parents — leaving poor Gabby’s family to look for their girl for weeks, never knowing the whole time the search was hopeless.
Well now? Now Brian wants to apologize. From the other side.

So says psychic Jonathan Mark, anyway. The celebrity medium had Gabby’s mom Nichole Schmidt on his show this week, the Connect with Jonathan Mark podcast. And he told her:
“Brian Laundrie is one hundred percent trying to come through, but Gabby is not letting him come through.”
Huh. Jonathan added:
“I don’t want him coming through either, if I’m being honest with you. Unless you want him to, I’m not going to let him come through.”
Well, that’s interesting. Jonathan wanted to focus on the positive. But Nichole disagreed. She has already said she forgave the young man who killed her daughter. And so she told the psychic:
“If he has something to say, I’d like to hear it.”
Jonathan acquiesced, then communicated:
“It’s more of an apology, I will say. And it’s more of explaining something.”
The medium commented that Brian should be apologizing, considering what he’d done. But what was that about Gabby? If she was holding him back, then… is she stuck with his ass for all of eternity? Because that seems incredibly dark…
Jonathan clarified she had not arrived with Brian:
“They’re not standing next to each other, which I think is a little obvious at this point. They’re both showing me two different perspectives of something.”
So what does Gabby want to impart? Surely that’s more valuable for her grieving mother. He revealed:
“She wants everyone to know that she is okay, really she is okay.”
He continued:
“What you did, to turn a negative into a positive, that’s what she’s so happy about, that’s what keeps her smiling. People can go down a rabbit hole and can get really upset.”
The Petitos absolutely have made the best of an unthinkably bad situation. After Gabby’s disappearance and death, they took the good will from the national interest and tried to refocus it onto other active missing persons cases. They created the Gabby Petito Foundation, a nonprofit with a mission to help the missing and abused.
Jonathan also claimed Gabby is happy the legal battle with the Laundries is over. The Petitos were suing Brian’s parents for hiding their daughter’s death from them. Back in February the families reached a settlement in the court case, which had been dragging on for months. The psychic said Gabby felt the suit was a weight dragging down the family — and especially Nichole, whom she felt was “being dragged through the mud.”
