Britney Spears' Father Steps Down -- But The Conservatorship Isn't Over!

britney spears dad steps down as conservator

After over a decade, Britney Spears‘ father Jamie Spears has finally stepped down as the singer’s conservator.

Per court documents filed in Los Angeles and obtained on Monday by People, a judge has approved Brit’s longtime “care-manager” Jodi Montgomery to take over, granting her the “same powers” which Mr. Spears has held since 2008.

According to The Blast, Britney’s attorneys were present at the hearing on her behalf, along with lawyers for ex-husband Kevin Federline, as well as momma Lynne Spears. A lawyer for Britney asked the California courtroom to be cleared of the media and witnesses because of conversations regarding sensitive medical information and the Grammy winner’s children.

However, certain legal documents have been made public. One doc states (below):

“[Montgomery] shall have the power to communicate with treating and other expert medical personnel regarding [Britney], and to have access to any and all records regarding [Britney’s] medical treatment, diagnosis and testing. [Montgomery] shall have access to any and all records regarding [Britney’s] psychiatric treatment, diagnosis and testing.”

This shift in power comes after recent child abuse allegations were levied against Jamie following an altercation with Brit and Kevin’s 13-year-old son Sean Preston Federline, which was apparently the last straw for Poppa Spears to finally hand off control to someone else.

But according to recently obtained court documents by TMZ, the 67-year-old only requested to step down from conservatorship-ing because of “personal health reasons,” with no mention of the alleged child abuse…

In her new role, Montgomery will also have the ability to do the following (below) on behalf of the musician:

  • The power to restrict or limit visitors by any means.
  • The power to retain caretakers and security for Britney on a 24-hour basis.
  • The power to prosecute civil harassment restraining orders.
  • The power to communicate with expert medical personnel regarding Britney and to have full access to her medical and psychiatric records.

In 2008 after Miz Spears’ unpredictable behavior started making headlines, an El Lay court named Mr. Spears the conservator of his eldest daughter’s affairs, and co-conservator of her estate along with attorney Andrew Wallet.

As we previously reported, Mr. Wallet filed documents to begin the process of his resignation earlier this year. Judging by an excerpt (below) from his legal statement, we can only assume things weren’t easy in his role, and things have only seemingly gone downhill for the entire Spears family ever since:

“The conservatorship is engaged in numerous ongoing business activities requiring immediate attention and it therefore is in the best interest of the conservatee that the acceptance of Wallet’s resignation and the issuance of amended letters of conservatorship of the estate occur immediately and without delay.”
