Good news, everyone! The better part of a decade hasn’t been wasted!
It’s so easy to see progress being rolled back and despair nothing ever gets better… especially in the past three weeks. With creepy guys seemingly getting un-canceled left and right, one might think about the #MeToo movement… what was it all for??
But take it from someone who quit Hollywood a couple years before all that… things HAVE gotten better!

Cameron Diaz just returned from her retirement to do her first movie in over a decade! She left Hollywood after 2014’s Annie — but Jamie Foxx talked her into coming back for the action comedy Back In Action, filmed in late 2022, early 2023. And she says things are unrecognizable now!
On a recent episode of the Skip Intro podcast, she explained:
“The industry is so different. I mean, I definitely have to say that MeToo changed everything. You walk on to the set and it is different.”
How so? It was pretty specific what changed for Cameron:
“There was always just like that one guy, you know, on set, that you were like, ‘God, here he comes again.’ There was always layers and layers of inappropriateness that you just kind of had to put up with.”
Instead, for Back In Action it wasn’t a creepy producer but rather an HR rep who spoke to her about what behavior was appropriate, what was expected, etc. And they even let her know to reach out with any complaints through an “anonymous hotline”! Seems like a no-brainer, right? But that wasn’t her experience all those years ago!
“I was like, ‘Wow, that’s amazing’. The level of security and safety you feel as a woman now on set is great. I had never felt that before this film.”
See? #MeToo did some good!
