Love Island Host Caroline Flack's Family Recalls 'Very Sad' Events During Star's Final Days Before Her Tragic Suicide

Caroline Flack's family talks her death

Caroline Flack‘s friends and family are re-living her tragic last days right now as part of a London coroner’s court’s inquest into her death.

As you’ll recall, the popular TV personality passed away by suicide in February 2020 amid an ongoing scandal surrounding alleged acts of domestic abuse. Prior to her death, Flack had been facing a very public upcoming assault trial, accused of allegedly abusing boyfriend Lewis Burton.

On Wednesday, her mother Chris and twin sister Jodi both addressed the coroner’s inquest and spoke to the court about the days leading up to Caroline’s passing. Chris claimed her daughter had been “hounded by the press” because of the upcoming assault trial she was facing with Burton as her accuser; the grieving mother further described the actual court proceedings themselves as a “show trial,” adding:

“I believe Caroline was seriously let down by the authorities and in particular the CPS [Crown Prosecution Services] for pursuing the case. There was disputed evidence in court… Being well known should not allow special treatment, but should not allow making an example of someone.”

Even a deputy chief crown prosecutor appears to have admitted something nearly similar to that at an earlier point in the inquest. According to the BBC, deputy prosecutor Lisa Ramsarran told the inquest about how CPS originally set out to “caution” Flack for the alleged abuse of Burton, only prosecuting the case after being “forced” to do so by the Metropolitan police, who claimed it was “in the public’s interest.” Even her alleged victim himself at one point asked CPS not to pursue the case but to no avail.

The Burton case figured large in the inquest into Caroline’s last days. Her sister revealed the blonde presenter had been “devastated” over the assault charges. And despite pleading not guilty, the star had been feeling like “she couldn’t tell her side of the story” even as the press repeatedly termed her an “abuser” with flashy headlines.

Jodi explained more about the Love Island host’s heartbreaking last few months and days, adding:

“Her life and reputation she worked hard to build was falling apart … because of a false accusation. It was our belief it would not be happening to her if she wasn’t in the public eye… At worst, her career and reputation, so precious to her, had been taken away. Caroline spent the last few months of her life hiding inside, scared of the abuse… Caroline seemed very sad the day before her death — she seemed to have lost her fight.”

Wow…

We can’t even imagine what she must have been going through at that point. So, so tragic. Our thoughts are with Caroline’s family and friends — especially now, too, as they must continue to relive these painful memories at such a publicly-available event like the coroner’s inquest. RIP…
