Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter are bonding over how hard it is to be so famous!
As Perezcious readers surely know, the Hot To Go! singer boldly demanded more respect from followers last month when she spoke out against “predatory behavior” she’s faced from some fans while trying to establish more boundaries. She first posted a few TikTok videos before following up with a lengthy Instagram post (below):
Speaking to Rolling Stone on Tuesday, the musician explained her viral social media posts about negative fan interactions came after someone grabbed her and kissed her at a bar where she was celebrating a friend’s birthday. Later that same night, she discovered someone had called her dad after his number was leaked online — and there have been several other unsettling incidents, too. It was all too much for her, prompting posts telling her supporters to stop with the “nonconsensual physical and social interactions.”

While she received some backlash for the request, many other A-listers have been super supportive. She told the outlet that Charli xcx, Billie Eilish, Katy Perry, Lorde, the members of MUNA, Miley Cyrus, Lady GaGa, Boygenius members Lucy Dacus, Julien Baker, and Phoebe Bridgers, and Hayley Williams (who she called “the strongest bitch ever”) have all reached out to her in some way to offer their help. Miley, for example, invited her to a party. Billie has said Good Luck, Babe! is her favorite song of the year (despite Chappell forgetting to text her back). And Katy told her to avoid the comments. Lady GaGa passed along her number, too — but the vocalist has been too nervous to call so far. Still, it’s the thought that counts!
There’s been one person, though, that she’s connected with on a very deep level: Sabrina Carpenter! The Espresso star has experienced a similar rapid-fire growth in popularity this summer after joining the Eras Tour (just as Chappell did while opening for Olivia Rodrigo). So, the artists have had similar trajectories. Because of this, they recently met up and unpacked their summers together, as the singer shared:
“We’re both going through something so f**king hard … she just feels like everything is flying, and she’s just barely hanging on. It was just good to know someone else feels that way.”
So important to have peers to connect with!
Singer-songwriter Mitski also commiserated with Chappell on the invasive fan behavior, writing in an email:
“I just wanted to humbly welcome you to the s**ttiest exclusive club in the world, the club where strangers think you belong to them and they find and harass your family members.”
Oof!
While there’s been a ton of industry support, the 26-year-old acknowledged that her male peers have been very quiet, adding:
“Not a lot of boys have been like, ‘Let me know if you ever want to talk about it.'”
Frustrating! That said, there are a few who have stood by her side, such as Orville Peck, Troye Sivan, Noah Kahan, and Elton John! She reflected:
“It’s been sick to have artists that I’ve looked up to for many years, sometimes my whole life, reach out.”
On her interaction with Elton, she recalled thinking a fan was hounding her because she got 11 calls in five days from a random iCloud number. She laughed:
“I thought a f**king fan found my iCloud. I was so mad and was about to hand my phone to my friend like, ‘Yo, let’s prank them.’ I finally answered it one day, and it was Elton F**king John. I was telling him I was struggling a lot, and he said, ‘If you need it to stop, say stop.’”
Meanwhile, he told the outlet:
“I am very protective of her. She is kind, innocent, and wonderful. She is not ‘Chappell Roan’ offstage — a bit like me. She is one of those people who I felt like I have known for a long time.”
Aw!
It’s not easy to navigate fame, and we cannot imagine how jarring it must have been to experience such a rise in popularity in such a short time frame. After so many years of hustling for this moment, things really took off this summer. No wonder it’s been overwhelming! It must be a relief to have so many acclaimed artists reaching out to offer her advice and support — especially considering some people on the internet weren’t super thrilled with her comments at first!
