This doesn’t happen often, if ever!
A cyclist — not a driver — has been found guilty (well, he pleaded) of vehicular manslaughter! This is the FIRST conviction of this kind in the country! The cyclist ran down a 71-year-old pedestrian in San Francisco.
Chris Bucchere is NOT going to serve any jail time with the deal, but would be sentenced to three years probation and 1,000 hours of community service!
Here’s what one of the lawyers said:
“Our goal is to send a message to cyclists about safety. Just because you are riding a bicycle doesn’t mean all bets are off. All of the rules of the road that apply to everyone else apply to you too.”
Exactly!
It’s just awful that a man had to die for this to really hit home!
Apparently the cyclist had been riding recklessly, running three red lights when he struck the victim crossing the street with his wife. The victim died four days later, and his family filed a civil suit against Chris!
The victim’s family did NOT want to see Chris imprisoned, though, so probation and community service was the plea deal.
That shizz is CRAY! It’s a wonder how this hasn’t happened before!
