David Harbour is addressing the scathing breakup album from his ex-wife Lily Allen for the first time!
Last October, the singer dropped West End Girl. It’s a raw, honest, and brutal album inspired by the demise of her marriage to the Stranger Things actor, in which she pretty much confirmed the rumors that he convinced her to start an open relationship after becoming jealous of her newfound success in acting but then broke the rules and had a long-term affair.

David never confirmed or denied the allegations himself — and he seemingly doesn’t plan to ever do so either! However, he is finally speaking out about the project months later. Looking back on that time in an interview with Variety on Wednesday, he said:
“It was weird. I do believe that it is the privilege of every artist to use their experience to create art, and so I respect her for doing that.”
That’s nice of him, we guess…
That said, he will not be opening up about his life like Lily! David continued:
“I can’t really say that much more because it’s my private life. In spite of the fact that a lot of people don’t allow me a private life — I value it. And I also value the lives of the people that I interact with privately. I just won’t speak about that.”
The man wouldn’t even publicly apologize for the “pain” he caused Lily, not even to save his own reputation. He basically called the split character development and moved on, so did anyone honestly think he would say much on the matter? Even when the interviewer gave him another opportunity to shut down any claims Lily made on the album, David refused. But he did offer up this take:
“Stories are complex, and that’s why I say I respect her creation of art to channel her experience. It wasn’t my experience. My ability to use my experience comes through in the creation of ‘DTF.’ I want to make things that make people feel safer. My particular talent is in allowing people to feel like they’re not alone.”
And by “people,” does he mean alleged cheaters? LOLz. Trust us, they have plenty of other two-timers to look up to. They didn’t need another one. Oh but you know who did feel alone? Lily. Anyway….
Look, on a more serious note, we’re all human and make mistakes. Here’s hoping both can fully heal from their failed marriage and move forward with the wisdom they’ve gained from it.
