How did Donald and Melania Trump first meet? It’s not a romantic story, that’s for sure. He first hit on her… while on a date with another woman. Yeah, really. One of the biggest red flags in the game…
In her new memoir Melania, which dropped on Tuesday, the former First Lady told the whole story. She recalled being at a party for Fashion Week in 1998 with a friend. At one point, the pal waved “at someone behind” her, and Melania “turned around” to see “a man and an attractive blonde woman approaching us.” The former model still remembers his introduction:
“‘Hi. I’m Donald Trump,’ the man said when he reached my table. ‘Nice to meet you.’ I recognized the name, and I knew he was a businessman or celebrity, but not much else.”
“Not much else”… If only it had remained so…
“He put his hand out to shake mine. ‘Hello,’ I replied. ‘I’m Melania.’”

The Celebrity Apprentice star then struck up a conversation with Melania, and it was clear he was interested — which would have been fine if his date weren’t RIGHT THERE. She wrote:
“His eyes filled with curiosity and interest, and, seizing the opportunity, he took the seat next to mine and started a conversation. He asked me about my time in New York, my Slovenian home, and my world travels.”
Even though the two only had a “brief encounter,” Melania said they shared “a moment of connection” that made “a lasting impression.” She remembered being drawn to his “magnetic energy” as they talked:
“From the moment our conversation began, I was captivated by his charm and easygoing nature. There was so much bustling activity around us, but his intent focus on our interaction made me feel like the center of his world. It was a refreshing departure from the usual superficial small talk, and I found myself drawn to his magnetic energy.”
That said, she “initially dismissed” the chat as nothing more than “ mere pleasantries exchanged at an industry event” since Trump was “accompanied by a beautiful date.” However, being out with a woman did not stop him from getting flirty with Melania. The second his date left “for a moment,” Melania wrote, he made a move and “asked me for my phone number.”
He tried to get another woman’s digits while on a date?! Seriously? We guess this would be more shocking if it wasn’t Trump. Among the looong list of his problematic and horrible behavior, the convicted felon has a history of cheating on all his wives, including eventually Melania. And of course, there are much, much worse red flags about his treatment of women… and very young girls.
Melania “politely declined his request,” which she noted Trump “was a little surprised” by. Of course, we all know she doesn’t just walk away from him for good after turning down his demand. Instead, what happpened is she told him to give her his number. He agreed — but only on one condition. Melania remembered:
“‘I’ll give you my number,’ he said, ‘if you promise to call me.’ With a hand gesture, Donald called over his bodyguard. His big shoulders leaned in as he listened to him, before discreetly writing a note on a sleek business card. Donald took the card and handed it to me.”
The rest was history. The pair dated on and off before getting married in 2005 and having their son, Barron Trump, one year later. And now look at them. Just such a happy, loving couple…
