Not even Fox News was having Donald Trump’s lies about border security following his prime time address on Tuesday night.
Fox anchor Shepard Smith mercilessly fact-checked the president’s nearly 10-minute speech from the Oval Office immediately after it ended, breaking down a “number of claims” that were grossly misleading.

After POTUS rattled off a series of scary claims about violent crime and murder rates committed by undocumented immigrants, Smith rebutted:
“Government statistics show that there is less violent crime by the undocumented immigrant population than by the general population.”
As for Trump’s repeated warnings about drugs crossing into the country illegally — a “crisis of the heart and a crisis of the soul” he insisted his border wall would stop — Shep clarified:
“But government statistics show much of the heroin actually comes not over the unguarded border but through ports of call.”
The Fox host also pushed back on Trump’s claim that the number of illegal border crossings is on the rise, telling viewers that they have actually been going “steadily down over the past 10 years,” and that the government reports “there is more outward traffic than inward traffic.”

And while Trump claimed that law enforcement professionals were the ones who requested $5.7 billion for the border wall, Shep clarified that it was actually the president himself who requested the funding and “and he himself who said he would own the shutdown.”
Naturally, the president’s address was also met with criticism from Democratic leaders like Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, who accused him of trying to “stoke fear” — so, you know Trump’s boiling over the fact that he was skewered just as badly by his favorite ass-kissing network.
