Gina Rodriguez should win an Emmys just for this gesture!
After considering a better way to spend her Emmy campaign money, the Jane The Virgin star decided to fund an undocumented high school student’s upcoming tuition for Princeton University.

Instead of using her For Your Consideration studio money to do the, as she put it in an interview with THR, “bizarre dance” of awards campaigning, G.Rod partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles to find a student to receive the scholarship.
Now, the unnamed, undocumented girl’s four years at Princeton will be fully covered!
The actress explained to the publication:

“FYC is a bizarre dance. Whatever you do requires an insane amount of money… Our show has always jumped at any opportunity to help me do something for the Latinx community. So I asked my showrunner, Jennie [Snyder Urman], if we could do something different with the money this year.”

Not just different — life changing!
While she acknowledges it’s taboo to reveal how she spent the campaign money, Rodriguez hopes doing so will inspire others to consider making an impact with their FYC money, too. She continued:

“It’s taboo to talk about the money being spent, but it’s the reality. I think sharing this might inspire other people to do something similar. You can desire recognition and, at the same time, decide to not play in the confines of the game as it’s set up.”

Changing someone’s life and still getting award recognition. She can have her Emmys cake and eat it, too!
