As if you weren’t already aware, Lea Michele and Chris Colfer‘s wins at last night’s People’s Choice Awards were pretty big indicators that the exciting new direction (see what we did just there? LOLz!) Glee has taken with their characters this season have gone over with viewers and critics alike VERY WELL!
So it’s no surprise – BUT STILL VERY EXCITING – that during the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, Fox Entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly spilled some pretty exciting details about what will be coming for the smash series…because he’s VERY CONFIDENT that Glee – and by default, the Oxygen reality competition The Glee Project – will be BACK for more than just another year, regardless of what that means for graduating characters!
As he explained, what was originally conceived as a New York-set spin-off for Kurt and Rachel has managed to be a “seamless” fit for the actual series, so in later years, as other members of New Directions grow up, it could actually become much more prominent part of the storyline:
“We’re going to negotiate now for the fifth season and beyond, so we’re talking about those things now. I have to talk to Ryan and see where he’s at right now. I don’t know. I wonder — could it and should it naturally move there [to New York]? But we have to talk. This was ultimately what became of the spinoff talk: ‘Let’s do it within the franchise.’ I do think if we can continue to follow a broad array of characters, it’s like life: You have relationships, you have friends — they go off, their lives go on, and you get together and maybe you maintain a friendship, maybe you lose distance. I think we can do that within this world of people you followed. Some of them [castmembers like Dianna Agron, Mark Salling, Amber Riley and Naya Rivera] have moved on to other things or wanted to move on to other things, but they love the show, and this gives them a chance to come back and do an arc. It would be fun to continue that morphing.”
YES! We VERY MUCH agree!
We admit to having reservations at first, but ultimately, the dual storylines have been an incredible way to maintain stories for old and fresh faces alike, and we’d LOVE to see that expand and continue as new generations of Gleeks join the fun!
Especially if it will keep our beloved Darren Criss from being killed off or becoming the McKinley janitor! LOLz!
