Recording Academy Says Leaked Grammys Winners List Has 'No Legitimacy'

You didn’t think the Recording Academy was that dumb, did you?
Well, plenty of people did after a Twitter account called Main Pop Data posted a number of messages on Monday night that purportedly revealed the winners of the 2019 Grammys!
According to the tweets, Main Pop Data used an “archived version of the webpage” to mine the list of unverified winners for the upcoming February 10 ceremony. Such winners apparently included Cardi B’s I Like It for Record of the Year, Lady GaGa’s Shallow for Song of the Year, and Taylor Swift’s reputation as Best Pop Vocal Album.

But don’t go belting out a celebratory rendition of Shallow just yet.
The Recording Academy says this so-called winner’s list is completely illegitimate, explaining in a statement:

“There is no legitimacy to this. GRAMMY Awards results are not shared, even with Recording Academy staff members, until the day of the GRAMMY Awards ceremony, when names of the recipients are delivered by Deloitte in sealed envelopes.”

How prestigious!
Still, we wonder how many of these artists will actually go on to win when the Grammys take place next week.
