Did Justin Timberlake get VIP treatment in his DWI case? The Hamptons district attorney has weighed in, and he says no!
As Perezcious readers know, the 43-year-old singer snagged a plea deal earlier this week that lowered the driving while intoxicated charge to the less serious charge of driving while ability impaired — which is a traffic violation and not a criminal offense. On Friday, he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge in court. That means no jail time for Justin! Instead, a judge ordered him to pay a $500 fine. He also must do 25-40 hours of community service at a non-profit and make a “public safety announcement.” That last part he took care of in a press conference outside the courthouse. Took him all of two extra minutes on his way out. Wow. That’s it?

Justin clearly got a slap on the wrist here. And one can’t help but think it’s because he’s a celebrity. We mean, come on, JT got a fine, some community service, and a public safety announcement — for a crime with a maximum of one year in prison if found guilty. There was a ton of evidence that he was intoxicated when he got behind the wheel in Sag Harbor, New York, earlier this summer, and yet he got off with basically nothing! Hell, for someone with that much money, $500 is pocket change.
However, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney swore to Page Six the day before the hearing that the Mirrors artist wasn’t receiving special treatment. Yeah, right. He said:
“The one thing that we want to make sure we’re doing is… being consistent, and we don’t want to treat any defendant better than others because of, you know, because of any perceived notoriety they may have. But we certainly don’t want to treat people worse for the same reason. So we’re taking pains to make sure that we’re treating this case like any other case of its kind.”
Right, because everyone is told to do a PSA as part of their sentencing. Come on!
