When it came to making sure their finale was a hit, How I Met Your Mother‘s delivery can be summed up in two words: challenge accepted!
The finale, which was for sure a tear-jerker, definitely jerked a lot of tears because it was the most watched episode in the series 9 years. Legen…wait for it…dary!
The last installment in the story earned CBS 12.9 million viewers, and a rating of a 5.3 in the key 18-49 demographic!
Meanwhile, show creator Craig Thomas had this to tweet regarding the show’s rating success, which although disappointed some fans for some reasons we won’t spoil, was a fitting end to the series:

We’re so glad Ted Mosby’s kids can finally make up for all those lost years of their lives that were spent listening to his long, rambling tale! But oh, was it a good one!
We hope McClaren’s got busy after the show aired and maybe ended in a historic bar fight (that Barney and Ted would exaggerate)!
